As we say goodbye to yet another successful year, we’d like to take this time to reflect on some of our accomplishments and get ready for what’s next.
What we accomplished with the help of our AWESOME volunteers:
The Guadalajara League started a new program, Sabados Musicales. Twice a month we volunteer with Sueños y Esperanzas by bringing music and laughter to the children of Guadalajara. We worked hard to build relationships and connect with these children and their nannies.
We began working with companies and a university sponsor and developed partnerships to offer team-building, volunteer opportunities for their employees.
We organized our first Women’s Empowerment Conference for 300 women. We hope to continue this conference annually with the help of our volunteers and community.
We had record-breaking attendance at our annual Fashion Show
Not counting board members and program head planning hours, our volunteers donated an estimated total of 300 hours of hands on work to the women and children in need in our community.
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
This is only a short list of our accomplishments for the year and we couldn’t have done it without all of you. Your hard work and open hearts are the only reason we are able to make this kind of impact.
Mi Bebé y Yo
Almost 800 packages of essential items and breast feeding info were delivered to new moms at the Hospital Civil this 2017-2018 cycle. We also started a knitting group to produce the adorable little baby hats that have been added to the packages. Liza Rojas will continue leading this program starting the first Tuesday of September. We hope to see you all there!
This year, we served close to 2,500 meals in San Juan de Ocotan with our Soup Kitchen program. Seventy dispensas were handed out at Christmas along with bolos and books that were donated by the American Consulate. Companies such as Oracle, HP and AMDOCS have also helped us purchase and serve meals. This summer we will be rebuilding the playground at the DIF thanks to the $3,000 USD grant that we received with the help of Terrill Martinez, Lori Sumner and Sezin Demircioglu.
This program has been more successful than anticipated. We wiggled our way into the little hearts of the children at Sueños y Esperanzas. Sixty classes were given from the beginning of January. We will continue this program throughout the summer. Mark your calendars for July 14 and August 18.
The end of a year means some tearful goodbyes. While we are excited to start a new year and welcome new Board Members, we had to let go of some of our old ones (unfortunately). Thank you to our hardworking Board Members: Gaby Infante, Matilde Ramos, Liza Rojas, Terrill Martinez and Rylie Burns. Without your dedication, creativity, opens minds and huge hearts, we’d be nothing.
